It is reported that directors of several leading hospitals were accused by the government politicians for requesting public support and donations to set up High Dependency Units that are urgently needed to save the patients from Covid deaths.
The politicians have blamed the hospital directors, saying asking for such assistance may embarrassed the government.
However, the directors of the hospitals explained that they had never intended to embarrass the government and sought opportunities from the society to fulfill the responsibility of a hospital for patients who die daily without facilities in an environment where government grants were sought but not provided.
The directors point out that the Covid Intensive Care Unit at several major hospitals in the country was set up in a few days with the help of the public and as a result at least 25 to 30 lives have been saved in the last few days.
