The United National Party insiders say that several powerful politicians of the ruling party and the opposition have indicated their willingness to join ranks with the UNP shortly to enhance its image.
Preliminary discussions with the opposition parties started four months ago in this connection have further expanded and concluded.

According to the above sources, a group of Sri Lanka Freedom Party, SLPP, Samagi Jana Balawega, and Tamil and Muslim activists are waiting in the wings, ready to join the United National Party.
