The ongoing discussions between the UNP and the Samagi Jana Balawewa have reached a decisive stage to form a broad coalition of the opposition.

An Opposition spokesman told Lankasara that after the talks, initial discussions were underway with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.

Over the past few days, representatives of the United National Party and the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) have discussed several issues regarding how to unite as a common opposition in the future.

Meanwhile, Karu Jayasuriya, the former Speaker, chaired a multi-party opposition conference yesterday.

Meanwhile, at the end of the talks, it was agreed to build a broad-based people’s movement against the anti-country and pro-people program being carried out by the government in the forthcoming elections.

In the future, Maithripala Sirisena’s faction, as well as former President Chandrika Kumaratunga’s faction, will hold separate discussions with the delegates and express their views on involving them in this.
