The UNP has unanimously decided to nominate the current President, Ranil Wickremesinghe, as the national candidate for the presidential election scheduled for September this year.
The decision was reached during a meeting of the committee held yesterday (09) at the President’s Secretariat in Colombo. The committee, which includes UNP Assistant Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Member of Parliament Vajira Abeywardena, Cabinet Minister Hareen Fernando, and Ruwan Wijewardena, discussed the upcoming elections and strategic decisions for the party.
The presidential election is set to take place in September, followed by the general election in January 2025, and the local government election in March.
