The 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council is set to begin today in Geneva. Accordingly, the report released by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on Sri Lanka is due to be taken up tomorrow.

The 46th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council is being held today via video technology due to the global Covid pandemic. This is the first time that human rights sessions are being held online.

Based on the report released by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the six countries that co-sponsored the resolution on Sri Lanka have stated that they will present a new resolution to the UN Human Rights Council this year to promote reconciliation, accountability and the promotion of human rights in Sri Lanka.

The United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro and Malawi also issued a joint statement stating that it was important for the UN Human Rights Commission to continue to consider Sri Lanka.
