Two students from Vavuniya Muslim College tragically drowned after accidentally falling into a water-filled pit today (17) evening.
The incident occurred at the Vavuniya University Stadium during an Elle match.
Aged 14 and 15, the victims had participated in the match and then ventured into a nearby garden. Regrettably, they fell into a pit filled with water, leading to their demise.
Local residents attempted to rescue the students from the pit, but their efforts were in vain.
The bodies were transported to Vavuniya Hospital for further examination.
Authorities, including Poovarasankulam police, are actively investigating to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
