After reviewing the impact of the recent tariff hikes, President Donald Trump’s administration announced today that smartphones, computers, solar cells, semiconductors, and other electronic components will be exempt from reciprocal tariffs. This exemption also applies to the 125% duties imposed on Chinese imports.
Late Friday, US Customs and Border Protection issued a notice stating that these goods will be excluded from both the 10% global tariff affecting most countries and the higher tariffs targeting Chinese products.
The decision follows strong concerns from US technology companies, who warned that the prices of many consumer gadgets could surge, as a large portion of these products are manufactured in China.
In addition to smartphones and computers, the exemptions cover other electronic devices and components such as memory cards, solar cells, and semiconductors.
