The Information and Communication Technology Authority (ICTA) has announced that motorists in Sri Lanka will soon be able to pay their traffic fines online through GovPay, the official digital payment platform for government-related services.

According to the Daily Mirror, ICTA board member and leading technology entrepreneur Harsha Purasinghe stated that plans are underway to enable this new service, which is expected to bring much-needed convenience and relief to motorists across the country.

Government sources confirmed that the ICTA has already completed preliminary work on the project. A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed soon to finalize the process.

The Sri Lankan government launched the GovPay platform to provide a secure and convenient digital payment method for services such as taxes, fines, utility bills, education fees, and other government charges.

The ICTA further revealed that within just seven days of GovPay’s launch, 16 government agencies joined the platform. Currently, 25 organizations are connected, with more being added each week as the platform continues to expand.

The introduction of traffic fine payments through GovPay is set to be another step forward in the country’s digital transformation journey, making government services more accessible to the public.
