Quoting Medical sources Colombo Municipal Council Chief Medical Officer Dr Ruwan Wijemuni warns that about 300,000 dengue cases may be reported this year.
He said that when one patient is identified, it can be assumed that there are 10 other patients in the community.
Dr. Wijemuni said that so far this year, 30000 dengue cases have been reported and 25 of the reported cases have died.
He also said that 1337 fever patients have been found in the Colombo city limits and 1138 of them have been identified as dengue fever patients.
If the fever persists for more than two days, the doctor requests the people to do a blood test immediately to confirm whether it is dengue or not.
A special request is also made to the parents to pay more attention to the children as there is a tendency to spread the disease, especially among the children.
Experts also point out that since the human body does not have antibodies that can withstand the hatred of the third dengue strain that exists these days, it is impossible to prevent a large number of people from falling victim to the disease.
