Three persons including former LTTE cadre who made firearms arrested

  • Sold for between Rs 20 000 – Rs 70 000

According to information received by the Ampara State Intelligence Service, the Thirukkovil Police recently arrested three persons, including a former LTTE cadre, with five firearms locally manufactured by them.

 The arrested person is a former member of the LTTE and a carpenter residing in front of the Tirukkovil fair. A resident of Kanchanakuda area who had tried to sell these along with the carpenter residing at Poruwila Road, Thirikkovil has also been arrested with him.

Two firearms were found inside the carpenter’s home and the other two were found after having been sold in the Thirukkovil area. Police said the group had manufactured around 20 of these firearms and sold them for amounts between Rs. 20 000 – Rs. 70 000. The suspects were released on Rs. 100,000 bail after being produced before the Akkaraipattu Magistrate’s Court.
