Three lawyers from Sri Lanka had travelled to Madagascar in a bid to secure the release of the arrested drug smugglers Harak Kata and Kudu Salindu through the legal process in that country. Informed sources said.

According to these sources, a president’s counsel and two female lawyers were present in Madagascar, to work out a case for their release.

They left a few days after the arrest, and reportedly, the lawyers were retained after paying very high legal fees.

However, their bid failed and the suspects were brought to Sri Lanka and held in the custody of the CID for interrogation.
