The Peradeniya police have taken three individuals into custody today (13) on suspicion of unlawfully entering the animal farm of the Peradeniya University Faculty of Agriculture, located in the Upper Peradeniya area, and slaughtering a well-grown pig.
According to reports, the incident occurred last night (12), during which a 150 kg pig was killed and stolen from the farm. The caretaker of the facility promptly lodged a complaint with the Peradeniya Police following the discovery.
In response to the complaint, law enforcement authorities conducted an investigation into a residence in the Uda Peradeniya area, where they discovered a stockpile of pork. This finding led to the apprehension of the suspects.
The University Governing Authority has emphasized that the animals on the farm are raised for both meat production and research purposes, serving the activities of the Faculty of Agriculture.
