The preliminary work for the removal of the Public Utilities Commission Chairman, Mr Janaka Ratnayake, from his position is currently being prepared. It is stated that charge sheets have been prepared against the chairman and necessary steps are being taken to remove him through a parliamentary process.
Mr Janaka Rathnayake, who continuously accused the government of revising electricity tariffs in violation of the Electricity Board Act and the Public Utilities Commission Act, criticized the tariff revision process. Due to the chairman’s criticism, the government disapproved of him.
The Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera, recently mentioned that necessary steps are being taken to remove him from the position.
