In a report, the National Audit Office said that an amount of over 12 million rupees had been spent to renovate the office of the Minister of State for Gems and Jewellery Related Industries.
They have also revealed that the ministry was located in a building that does not belong to the ministry.
In the foregoing circumstances, the audit office has recommended that since the ministry has failed to recover the money spent on renovating the building, which does not belong to the ministry, from the relevant institution, the ministry is liable to pay the money incurred for the renovation.
Meanwhile, the accounting officer of the State Ministry of Gems and Jewellery Related Industries has stated in his response to the audit that the State Ministry of Home Affairs had informed him to take the necessary steps to carry out the repairs at the expense of the Ministry.
