One of the most sought-after archaeological sites that bear historical significance, where the Kurundi Attakatha had been documented, was yesterday released to its original owners on a directive by the President.

This sprawling site spread over 229 acres and bordering the western parameters of the Mulaitivu Kurudumalai temple was acquired by the Archeological department due to its historical significance

This land is located in the Mulathivu-Thannimuruppu area.

A letter in this regard has been sent by the Presidential Secretariat to the Mullaitivu District Secretary and the Assistant Commissioner of Archaeology.

After an archaeological exploration, the surveyors were called by the archaeology department officers to carry out a proper survey of the 229 acres of land that had been earmarked to be taken over by the Department of Archeology.

Subsequently, the president ordered the suspension of all activities relating to the survey.

When the archaeological officials took a Buddha statue to establish an office and a shrine there, the representatives of the Tamil political parties protested against it.
