President Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested the prelates of the two main chapters, Malwatu and Asgiriya, hold a special exposition of the sacred tooth relic at the Sri Dalada Maligawa (palace of the sacred tooth relic) in Kandy.
It has been mentioned that this exhibition should be held in the month of March next year, coinciding with the 75th independence celebration for the country.
The letter addressing the two prelates on the matter was handed over to the prelates by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
The Prime Minister visited the Malwathu Maha Vihara, received the blessings of the Mahanayake of that sect, Most Venerable Thibbatuwe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala, and handed over the letter requesting an exposition of the sacred tooth relic.
The Prime Minister also visited the Asgiri Maha Vihara, received the blessings of the most venerable Warakagoda, Sri Gnanaratana Mahanayake, and presented the President’s letter.
The prelates have informed the Prime Minister that after discussing the relevant proposal with the committee’s high-level monks, they will inform the Prime Minister.
Yesterday afternoon (17th), the Prime Minister went to the Sri Dalada Palace and, after paying obeisance, handed over the letter to Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela in Diyawadana Nilam.
