The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today postponed for May 27 its judgment in respect of two cases filed against Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and former Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
This is over an incident where Mrs Weerawansa had fraudulently obtained two passports, including a diplomatic passport, by submitting forged documents to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
The judgement in the two cases was to be delivered today. However, Colombo Additional Magistrate Shalini Perera decided to put off the cases to be taken up, before the permanent Magistrate on May 27.
The CID had filed two separate charge sheets against Shashi Weerawansa for fraudulently obtaining two passports, including a diplomatic passport by submitting forged documents to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
The CID had commenced an investigation against Shashi Weerawansa over the charge of obtaining diplomatic and general passports illegally. She had allegedly submitted birth certificates with forged names and dates of birth to obtain those passports. She is currently out on bail.
The court has already concluded recording evidence from both the prosecution and defence regarding this matter.
