The parents of a 14-year-old boy living in the Uruvitiya area in Denipitiya have lodged a complaint with the Weligama Police their son has eloped with a tuition class teacher. According to the parents, the boy and the teacher have been in a secret love affair.
At around 2.00 pm on October 5, the child had attended a private tuition class at the teacher’s house, about 400 meters from his own home,, at which time the child and the child’s younger sister and another child were in the class. The class had ended shortly after and the younger sister of the missing child had gone home alone.
The mother of the boy had then visited the teacher’s home in search of the child, only to be told by the mother of the teacher that the teacher was not at home. The parents of the boy and the villagers had then searched for both the boy and the teacher but to no avail, following which they had lodged a complaint with the Weligama Police.
According to the parents, the child’s mobile phone had last been used in the Matugama area according to the mobile provider. They have also raised their suspicions about the teacher’s family as they do not appear to be concerned about the teacher being missing.
However, the child’s father’s brother says that the text messages exchanged between the teacher and the child confirm that there was a love affair between the child and the teacher. The child’s mother says that when the child went to the tuition class from home, the child had also taken a gold necklace from the house.
