Adhering to the appeal made by Medical Specialists with regard to the current pandemic situation the protest march from Kandy to Colombo has been suspended at Pasyala today (07) President of the Teachers ‘and Principals’ Trade Union Ven. Ulapane Sumangala Thero said.

“By yesterday, the Specialist Doctors’ Association had made a special request to the teachers and principals to withdraw the trade union activity under the current circumstances and resume the struggle with the current situation in the country. A written request had been made. We, as teachers and principals, have been informed to suspend today’s trade union action temporarily.

The Covid epidemic has reached a catastrophic level today and is killing 4 people per hour due to the reckless actions of the government. The government is trying to save the lives of teachers and principals by spreading this wave of Covid. Realizing this, we are temporarily taking a step back from this business. ”

When inquired about this, the Secretary of the Association of Grade Principals Nimal Mudunkotuwa said that the protest march was stopped only in response to the social demand and that all other protest campaigns including online teaching have been launched.
