Dinasena Rathugamage –

The Central Committee of TNA which was held in Vavuniya, in order to decide on their support in the upcoming Presidential election has been ended without a final decision , senior committee member MP Selvam Adeikalanathan, stated yesterday (11)
This Central Committee meeting was held at the Tamil National Alliance’s (TNA) Vavuniya District Office.

According to him the majority opinion was that the most appropriate decision at this time is to support President Ranil Wickramasinghe, and a few members representing the Eastern Province declared that it is important to support the Tamil common candidate. So there had been a big uproar in the central committee meeting.

Although this Central Committee meeting lasted for many hours, the TNA has not been able to take a decision regarding the candidate it will support in this year’s presidential election.

However, during this central committee meeting, there was a heated exchange of words between the MPs, and sometimes inappropriate words were used several times.

After the meeting, Tamil National Alliance Member of Parliament for Jaffna District, M. Sumanthiran, said that a presidential candidate who will agree to distribute power through a democratic process in the Northern and Eastern Provincial Divisions will have the support of the Tamil National Alliance.
MP Sumanthiran said that after the announcement of the policy statements of the candidates for the presidential election, his party will discuss the matter with each candidate, and after that, the decision will be reached as to whom to support.

As the Tamil National Alliance is the largest Tamil political party that fulfils the hopes of the Tamil people in this country, MP Sumanthiran stated that his party is not capable of taking irresponsible decisions and said that the party will take steps to present the decisions made by the party to the Sinhalese people in the south of this country.

MP Sumanthiran further said that since a Tamil common candidate was nominated for the presidential election without the approval of the Tamil National Alliance or the knowledge of the party, he decided to explain the party’s position to the Tamil common candidate.
