The Matara Magistrate’s Court granted bail to IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon today (10). When Tennakoon was produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court this morning while in remand, he was released on two sureties of Rs. 1 million each.
He was remanded after evading court for 20 days, despite being summoned in connection with the shooting incident at the W15 Hotel in the Pelena area of Weligama in December 2023. He later surrendered to the court through a motion.
Tennakoon was scheduled to surrender to the court on March 19. A warrant was issued by the Matara Magistrate’s Court for his arrest after he failed to appear and remained in hiding.
He was subsequently produced before the court on several occasions. When he was last produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court on the 3rd of this month, the judge ordered that he be remanded until today.
