A three-wheeler driver who was remanded in custody for raping a twelve-year-old girl has committed suicide by drinking a chemical used for washing toilets in a toilet located at the Udugama Magistrate’s Court, according to reports from Udugama Police.
The suspect was arrested by the Nagoda Police and presented to the Udugama Magistrate’s Court yesterday (08). After being remanded, the suspect went to the toilet while in the custody of prison officials.
He was admitted to Udugama Hospital after drinking a chemical used for washing toilets in the toilet, but passed away yesterday (08) afternoon while receiving treatment at Udugama Hospital.
The magistrate’s examination of the deceased suspect was scheduled to be held today (09) at the Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
