A school student tragically lost their life after being struck by a JCB machine, today (20) afternoon in Matugama.
Local police have identified the victim as Senumitha Jayasundara, an 8th-grade student of Ananda Sastralaya Vidyalaya in Matugama.
Senumitha Jayasundara, a 12-year-old resident of Matugama Nebada Road, was reportedly en route to the school playground when the accident occurred.
Hospital authorities have confirmed that the deceased student’s body has been transported to the Vettewa Regional Hospital.
The driver of the JCB machine involved in the incident has been apprehended and was scheduled to appear before the Matugama Magistrate.
