The car in which Sasikala Raviraj, the wife of slain politician Nadaraja Raviraj, was traveling was attacked with stones last night (05) in the Chavakachcheri area of Jaffna. Sasikala is running as a candidate in the upcoming general election for the Jaffna District, representing the Democratic Tamil National Alliance.
During the incident, Sasikala was inside the vehicle. Although the stones shattered the car’s glass, she was not injured.
In her complaint to the Chavakachcheri police, Sasikala stated that a group of individuals on motorcycles attacked her car before fleeing the scene. A few days prior, her residence in Jaffna was also attacked, and she accused the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi party of being responsible. Despite filing a complaint with the Jaffna police, no arrests have been made regarding the house attack.
This is Sasikala Raviraj’s second time contesting the general election from Jaffna. Currently, the northern region reports the most election-related violence, with political tensions intensifying in both the North and South.
