A memorial ceremony was held at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital yesterday (21) to commemorate the 21 employees of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital who were killed in an attack during the stay of the Indian Peacekeeping Forces (IPKF) in Jaffna.
The ceremony was presided over by the Director of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, P. Sathyamoorthy. This year marked the 33rd death anniversary of the staffers.
The IPKF had launched an attack on the hospital after they were ambushed by a group of LTTE cadres who had then run off in the direction of the hospital. The incident took place on October 21, 1987.
