A Sri Lankan Police Constable who participated in the International Police Association (IPA) Summit held in France has not returned to Sri Lanka as expected.
The officer, belonging to the Western Province Police Traffic Division, was due to come back in May but has chosen to stay in France instead.
Following an investigation into the matter, the Western Province Police Traffic Division issued a circular on Saturday (17) declaring the officer as officially absent from duty. This incident adds to a series of cases where police officials have failed to return after attending overseas events.
Recently, it was reported that five Sri Lankan Police officers did not come back after attending a forum in the United Kingdom (UK). Out of a group of six officers, five have yet to return, prompting a Police investigation into their whereabouts. Similar incidents involving Sri Lankan athletes failing to return after international events were also reported last year.
