According to political sources, the fourth session of the 09th Parliament will be prorouged on the 24th of this month and the new session will be inaugurated by President Ranil Wickremesinghe on the 7th of February, Derana reports .
Accordingly, the Parliament is scheduled to meet for the last time on the 23rd and 24th of this month. The second reading of the Online safety Bill will be held on January 23 and 24.
Since the 25th Thursday of this month is the Poya holiday, the Parliament will meet only two days that week.
Accordingly, it is reported that the President will issue the gazette for the end of the Parliament session at midnight on the 24th.
With the end of the term of Parliament, more than 50 committees including COP, COPA will be abolished and accordingly all those committees are scheduled to be re-established.
It is stated that only the Committee on Higher Officials, the Sectoral Oversight Committee and the Special Committees will not be abolished due to termination of terms.
Parliament was last adjourned on the 27th of January last year and thus ended the third session of the 9th Parliament. – Derana
