Energy Minister Engineer Kumara Jayakody has reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to advancing renewable energy, emphasizing the importance of hydrogen as a future power source.
Speaking at the Stakeholder Consultation on Sri Lanka’s Draft Hydrogen Policy held in Colombo today, Minister Jayakody declared that the government is ready to provide all necessary support to harness hydrogen energy.
“It is our policy to make maximum use of renewable energy and modern technology to achieve the country’s energy goals. The use of hydrogen for power generation is very important for the future, and this consultation is a key step toward finalizing our national hydrogen policy,” the Minister stated.
Highlighting Sri Lanka’s vast renewable energy potential, he explained that efforts are already underway to strengthen transmission networks, expand storage facilities, and develop infrastructure to integrate more renewable energy into the national grid. He further noted that the drafting of a hydrogen policy is a crucial first step in shaping the country’s long-term clean energy future.
Minister Jayakody also praised the involvement of both local and international experts in the initiative, including Sri Lankan scholars working abroad. “It is a significant achievement to secure the expertise of specialists from developed countries, along with our own scholars and institutions, in shaping this policy,” he added.
