Sri Lanka halves the $ 14 million Pfizer vaccine order

The Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health has decided to amend the order quantity of 14 million Pfizer vaccines to be imported to 6.8 million, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said in Parliament today(06) .

The number of stocks ordered for the third dose in the face of the Covid pandemic was revised in accordance with expert recommendations made under the guidance of the World Health Organization and the third dose would be given only to the people of this country over the age group over 60 years and for health workers who are at the forefront of the epidemic, the Minister further stated .
He was responding to a question by MP Buddhika Pathirana further stated
“Some people concern about vaccine brands. But we can use every vaccine approved by the World Health Organization. Certain brands are specifically stated to be used only for people over 12 years of age. However, there is still controversy about vaccinating children. We will take a decision in this regard as per the recommendations of the relevant experts. ”
