Sri Lanka Cricket has announced the immediate suspension of all domestic cricket tournaments, citing a legal dispute filed by the Balapitiya Gesto Sports Club. The club had raised concerns regarding the proper promotion of teams to the Governors Cup and the top-tier “B” division.
In accordance with a court order, the Cricket Competition Committee, after considering recommendations from the Ministry of Sports, recently conducted the final match of the tournament. Following this, the committee has decided to cancel all ongoing tournaments.
The Governors Cup Final featured the Kalutara Crusaders and Narammala Sports Club, with Narammala emerging as the winners. While clubs that finished last in last year’s tournament had previously been informed of relegation, the recent developments have created a unique situation where some clubs have the opportunity to compete in the tournament once again.
