The Sri Lanka Air Force will receive 10 TH-57C Ranger helicopters from the United States, said Air Vice Marshal Gihan Seneviratne, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Force.
He made this statement at a media briefing held at the Air Force Headquarters yesterday (18) to raise awareness about the 75th anniversary of the Air Force. The Deputy Chief of Staff stated that the relevant aircraft will be shipped in March and will reach the country by early May. He said that the helicopters are expected to be used for training pilots and in case of disasters.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief of Staff stated that 4 MI-17 helicopters are to be sent to Georgia for repair. The Deputy Chief of Staff further stated that it is expected that these aircraft will be inducted into the Sri Lanka Air Force within 6 or 7 months.
The U.S. Navy is handing over 10 Bell TH-57 Sea Ranger helicopters to the Sri Lanka air force, the service announced. The 10 choppers were provided for free as part of the U.S. Excess Defense Articles program and will be used to train pilots in Sri Lanka
