Seeks experts opinion to replace Sputnik V second dose with Pfizer

Sputnik V

People who are expecting to get the second dose of the Sputnik v vaccine will seek the advice of the Expert Committee on Vaccination and Epidemiology on giving the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine as the second dose Dr Prasanna Gunasena, Chairman of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation, said Yesterday(04). In an interview with a TV channel, he noted that since the Sputnik vaccine is an mRNA vaccine, there is a focus on providing the existing Pfizer vaccine in the same category.

At present, there is difficulty in obtaining the second dose of the 120,000 Sputnik vaccine in the Kandy District.
Russia’s Sputnik vaccine industry is in crisis, and people in a number of countries that have already received its first dose are finding it difficult to get the second dose. Many countries that have experienced this situation are seeking expert advice on alternative vaccines available for this second dose, as the second dose is mandatory if the vaccine is to be successfully immunized against the Covid virus.
However, the health authorities in Sri Lanka had taken steps to obtain unethical consent that the second dose of this vaccine was unpredictable and that they would prefer to take at least only one dose when receiving the first vaccine.
