Sports Minister Harin Fernando has announced the dissolution of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, led by Shammi Silva, following government audit reports and an independent commission’s investigation. The decision also involves canceling the cricket interim committee appointed under the chairmanship of Arjuna Ranatunga.
Minister Fernando took to Twitter to share the news, stating that he signed the gazette paper to revoke the appointment of the interim committee by former Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe. The move aims to address issues raised in the audit report issued by the Auditor General on Sri Lanka Cricket.
Harin Fernando emphasized that this decision was made with the goal of lifting the cricket ban imposed on Sri Lanka by the International Cricket Council (ICC). He informed the Attorney General about the report’s findings and requested further action. Additionally, Minister Fernando stated that written notifications regarding the audit report’s observations would be sent to the ICC.
The ban on Sri Lankan cricket is reported to be at the request of the current Cricket Board President, Shammi Silva.
