Colombo High Court Judge Adhitya Patabandi has ordered the release of social media activist Natasha Edirisuriya on bail after she was accused of making a statement deemed insulting to the Buddhist religion.
During the hearing, Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dilip Parsal, representing the Governor, informed the court that they would not oppose the bail application. Consequently, the judge ruled that Edirisuriya should be released on a surety of one lakh rupees.
The bail application, presented by President’s lawyer Anusha Premaratne, was thoroughly considered by the judge before granting bail to the suspect. Additionally, the judge directed the High Court Registrar to promptly transfer the case to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court as per the judgment.
