Social activist Dan Priyasad, who sustained serious injuries following a shooting in the Kolonnawa area, succumbed to his injuries last night at the Colombo National Hospital.
According to the Police Media Spokesperson, the shooting occurred around 9:10 PM yesterday (22) on an upper floor of the Laksanda Sevana apartment complex in Kolonnawa.
Two individuals arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire, and fled the scene. Initial investigations revealed that the assailants used a pistol in the attack.
Hospital sources reported that Dan Priyasad suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and shoulders and was rushed into urgent surgery.
However, shortly afterward, the Police Media Spokesperson clarified that Dan Priyasad was not dead but was receiving treatment in critical condition.
Later this morning, the Police Media Division officially confirmed that Dan Priyasad had died while receiving treatment.
Dan Priyasad was an active member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and was contesting for the Kolonnawa Urban Council in the upcoming local government elections.
Another individual sustained minor injuries in the incident and was also hospitalized.
