All the political parties that were in alliance with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will compete in the upcoming local government elections under the Pohottuwa (Lotus Bud) symbol, the General Secretary of the party, Member of Parliament Sagara Kariyawasam said. He stated this while attending the news conference held today (02) at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna party headquarters.
MP Sagara Kariyawasam also said:
“Right now, the country’s attention is focused on the local government elections. The Election Commission has already announced that it will publish the gazette announcement related to the election soon. As a party, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has discussed with all the parties in the alliance this time and decided to contest the next local government election under the Pohottuwa (Lotus Bud) symbol.
We also discussed with the United National Party to some extent. But by now we have reached a decision to contest under the Pohottuwa symbol after discussing with the parties that had previously formed alliances with us and the heads of local government bodies.
Sometimes there will be opportunities to contest with our candidates for some local government bodies under the symbols of their parties. However, the vast majority of local government bodies are contesting under the banner of Pohottuwa.
