The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is planning to field a candidate for the forthcoming presidential election. A senior spokesman for the party said.

He pointed out that there is no decision to field a candidate who acts contrary to the policies of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna or from another camp. He said that doing such a thing may push the country into anarchy.

He also said that candidates will be nominated under the leadership of his party for the next parliamentary elections as well.

“Though people are hoping for the presidential election, several more elections are scheduled to be held in the country before that, and his party is gearing up to gauge the people’s opinion using these elections as a barometer,” he added.

The spokesman mentioned that there are several names tossed around as to which candidate will run for the upcoming presidential election, and he added that Rajapaksa is the likely candidate to run for the presidency.
He further said that no matter what anyone says, massive development was possible in the country only under the Rajapaksa regime, and the current economic management and other development activities are possible due to the economic and international benefits gained by Rajapaksa’s efforts.
