Several public servants’ unions are to report sick leave today as the beginning of a trade union action demanding a salary increase of Rs. 10,000.

Meanwhile, trade unions affiliated to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, the Ports Authority and the Ceylon Electricity Board are planing to held a protest in Colombo today against the sale of national resources.
In addition, 16 health trade unions, including nurses, paramedics and paramedics, have launched a trade union action at the provincial level over seven demands, including pay anomalies. All hospitals in the North Western Province and the Uva Province have launched a 24 hour strike from 7 am today.
