According to sources from the Criminal Investigation Department, the shooting that occurred yesterday in Kotahena is the latest in a series of ongoing killings in the area.
The incident took place on the 16th, in front of a house on Sumithrarama Road, Kotahena. It is believed to have been orchestrated by Pukudikanna, a known underworld figure currently imprisoned in India. The intended targets were two individuals closely connected to the family of the slain drug trafficker, Kudu Selvi.
Authorities say the shooting is part of a wider crime wave involving hired assassins. The victims are not limited to those directly involved in criminal networks, suggesting that rival factions are using such attacks as intimidation and retaliation.
Two gunmen on a motorcycle carried out the attack using a pistol. Police have launched a manhunt to identify and apprehend the shooters, though they remain unidentified at this time.
A 42-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman sustained gunshot wounds and were admitted to the National Hospital. Hospital sources confirm that both are receiving treatment and are not in critical condition.
