In the past two weeks alone, 28 turtle deaths have been reported experts believe that was due to the impact of the burned and sunken ship X Press Pearl.

The dead turtles and dolphins have been dumped in Wellawatte, Dehiwala, Moratuwa, EgodaUyana, Panadura, Kosgoda, Induruwa, Galle, Unawatuna, Kudawella, Marawila, and Thuduwa. One turtle body has been dumped on the Mannar beach.
