In the past two weeks alone, 28 turtle deaths have been reported experts believe that was due to the impact of the burned and sunken ship X Press Pearl.
The Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation states that in addition to 28 dead turtles there are two infected turtles are currently receiving veterinary treatment. The dead turtles and dolphins have been dumped in Wellawatte, Dehiwala, Moratuwa, EgodaUyana, Panadura, Kosgoda, Induruwa, Galle, Unawatuna, Kudawella, Marawila, and Thuduwa. One turtle body has been dumped on the Mannar beach.
