Due to the large influx of people gathering in Kandy to witness the ongoing Esela Perahara, the Central Provincial Ministry of Education has made the decision to temporarily close schools located in and around the city.
The decision, prompted by instructions from the Central Provincial Governor, Lalith U Gamage, will result in the closure of schools in Kandy city and its immediate vicinity. The affected schools include those spanning from Kandy city to Katugastota bridge, Peradeniya bridge, Gannoruwa junction, Veva Rauma to Ampitiya, Thananekumbura bridge, Dodomwala Royal Primary School, Bowalwatta, and Hantana schools.
This temporary closure is scheduled from tomorrow (28) until the following Thursday (31).
The Central Provincial Education Department has communicated that any missed school days during this period will be compensated by holding classes on Saturdays, ensuring that students’ educational progress is not compromised.
