Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa publicly revealed for the first time that he is a loving father of a daughter.
The opposition leader stated this last Saturday (24) while addressing a Women’s Conference held at the Mahaiyava Waywelpitiya Stadium in Kandy.
The Leader of the Opposition said:
I am also a father with a child now. I also have a daughter. As a father, my ultimate hope is that my daughter grows up gets a good education, and becomes a virtuous, civilized, educated citizen of the country.
That is my wish. I know that is the wish of every mother who listens to my story and has for your children. That is the wish of every father for his children.
The other day I went to the hospital with my wife to give the relevant vaccinations to my daughter. When those injections are given, I ask everything. Searching for everything. It’s my nature. I ask when this vaccine is given. What is this vaccine for? What protection does this vaccine provide? When I said that, the pediatrician who took care of my daughter told me to give my daughter the SYNFLORIX vaccine.
It doesn’t matter. They said let’s beat it. But he says that it does not affect the children of our country in the government health system. Then I asked how much the vaccine will cost. It will be seven thousand eight hundred. But the children of these mothers and fathers who go to government hospitals cannot get this vaccine. It is an essential vaccine.
There is a bacterium that causes pneumonia, Streptococcus pneumoniae and I asked if the doctor would tell my daughter that it is important to take this. Then these other mothers and fathers do not beat their children.
The doctor says no.. the price is too high. This is the situation in our country today. Mothers and fathers who can find seven or eight hundred take that medicine for their children from the private sector. But the vast majority of people in this country do not have that kind of work. I tell this mother that I will remove this difference and I accept the responsibility of providing the same care that the politician’s child receives from the private sector.
Sajith Premadasa said that he did not come to this stage to blame anyone but to give answers to the problems faced by women in this country. He also declared that every word he said would become a reality on earth.
