A co-pilot of the Russian Aeroflot airline has died after falling in the hotel where he was staying last night (15), says the Katunayake police.
Dovgaienko Valerii, a 63-year-old co-pilot, was staying at a hotel in the Pillawatta area when the unfortunate accident occurred
According to the hotel staff at the scene, Valerii accidentally slipped and fell into a drain within the premises of the hotel.
Immediate action was taken by a group of Katunayake police officers who swiftly transferred the co-pilot to the nearby Negombo General Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The doctors at Negombo General Hospital, after a thorough examination, sadly confirmed his passing.
It is suspected that the cause of death may be a heart attack, and the post-mortem was scheduled to be conducted at the Negombo General Hospital.
The deceased was scheduled to take off from Katunayake Airport at 12.30 pm today (16) for Moscow, Russia, to work as the co-pilot of the Aeroflot flight.
