U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to meet Pope Leo on Thursday (08), following recent tensions involving Donald Trump over the war in Iran.
The disagreement became public last month when Trump criticised the pope on social media, calling him “terrible” after Leo spoke out against the U.S.-Israeli military actions in Iran. A few days later, Trump questioned the pope’s stance, asking why he had not addressed the deaths of Iranian protesters.
Responding to the criticism, Pope Leo stated that he condemns all unjust actions, including the loss of human life.
According to the U.S. ambassador to the Holy See, the upcoming meeting is expected to include a direct and open discussion on the Trump administration’s policies.
