A Reuters journalist lost his life, and six others sustained injuries in a missile attack reportedly launched by Israel in southern Lebanon, according to Reuters reports.
The journalists, part of teams from Al Jazeera and AFP, were working near Alma al-Sha’ab, close to the Israeli border when the attack occurred.
The incident follows clashes in the border region between the Israeli army and armed Hezbollah groups in Lebanon.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and a Hezbollah lawmaker have attributed blame to Israel for the attack.
As of now, the Israel Defense Forces have not issued an immediate response. However, Israel’s UN representative, Gilad Erdan, stated during a briefing, “Obviously, we never want to attack or kill or shoot any journalist on duty…but you know, we are at war, things can happen. We are investigating this as a country.”
