Report on Hacked USD 2.5 Million to be Presented to COPF on Tuesday

A report by the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance regarding the cyber phishing scam that resulted in the loss of USD 2.5 million from the Treasury will be presented to the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) on Tuesday, June 2, the Sunday Mawbima newspaper reports.

Accordingly, the Committee on Public Finance is scheduled to meet in Parliament on Tuesday.

Committee member and SJB MP Harshana Rajakaruna told Sunday Mawbima that the report will be examined and the next course of action will be discussed during the meeting.

He further stated that a comprehensive report incorporating the views of other relevant parties, including officials of the Central Bank, will also be reviewed before being submitted to Parliament.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Harshana Suriyapperuma, was summoned before the Committee on Public Finance on April 3 regarding the disappearance of USD 2.5 million from the Treasury through a cyber phishing attack. During that meeting, the Committee Chairman instructed him to submit a detailed report on the incident within one month.
