Hiru owner Rayynor Silva increases his stake in Sampath Bank by purchasing 27 million shares for Rs. 1.4 billion, making him the 4th largest shareholder with at least an 8.5% stake, overtaking Indra Traders owner Indra de Silva, according to sources. The high net worth investor Dr. T. Senthirverl was the key seller, and the transaction was carried out through Rayynor’s investment arm Phantom Investments Ltd.
According to the Daily Financial Times, Sampath Bank recorded the highest turnover of Rs. 1.6 billion, accounting for 56% of the total turnover on 16th June, involving 29.45 million shares. The closing share price for Sampath Bank stood at Rs. 54.90, marking a 3.6% increase or Rs. 1.90.
It is worth noting that Rayynor Silva had previously purchased 20 million Sampath shares for Rs. 1 billion in March, making him the fifth largest shareholder at that time. The controlling stake in Sampath Bank is held by Vallibel One PLC, controlled by business tycoon Dhammika Perera, which owns 15% of the shares.
