Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is being questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Colombo in connection with an ongoing probe into an overseas visit to London that investigators allege was funded with state resources.
The CID has estimated the cost of the trip at around Rs. 16.9 million, claiming that while the visit included private engagements, it was financed with public funds.
Earlier this month, former presidential secretary Saman Ekanayake and former private secretary Sandra Perera were also questioned in relation to the inquiry.
Local media reported that Wickremesinghe arrived at CID headquarters on Friday morning and is providing a statement to investigators.
