A crucial meeting between President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was held at the President’s House this evening.
The meeting is being held while the Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa is sitting on a firm stand that the President should step down and is negotiating for a new government.
He also met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe while Sri Lanka Podujana Party leaders, independents and members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya were calling for him to take over as the caretaker Prime Minister.
It is noteworthy that this meeting was held at the invitation of the President at a time when the former Prime Minister had given a positive response to those requests.
During the discussion on the current situation and how to find solutions to them, Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed the President that the country is at a time when immediate solutions need to be found without creating anarchy.
The President has stated that the Opposition does not have an acceptable agreement on the invitation extended to the Opposition for the new government.
In this situation, political sources are confident that former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will take over as the new Prime Minister.
