The Fort Magistrate allows police to question detained student activists

The Colombo Fort Magistrate Court granted police permission to obtain a statement from the conveners of the Inter-University Student Federation, Wasantha Mudali, and the Inter-University Monks Federation, Ven. Galvewa Siridhamma Thera, who are currently in detention.

Slave Island police told the Fort Magistrate Court that they had organized a march from Kelaniya University to the Fort President’s Secretariat on the 19th of August, disregarding a court order, on the initiative of these two.

Accordingly, the police made a request to the Fort Magistrate yesterday (16) that statements be obtained from the convener of the Inter-University Student Federation, Wasantha Mudalige, and Ven. Galvewa Siridhamma Thero, who are currently detained as a result of the march.

Following the request, the Fort Magistrate allowed the police to obtain statements from Wasantha Mudalige and Siridhamma Thero.
